Lizzil Gay has been working as a Melbourne based performance and video artist since 1992. Lizzil creates interdisciplinary art experimenting with performance, installation, video and site based works. Her creative work is embodied, bold and political.
Lizzil was a founding member of the notorious punk burlesque troupe, The Voodoo Trash Dolls and Artistic Director of cutting edge performance and media group Dysfunkt Productions and worked with the experimental band Tedium.
Lizzil also engages in academic research with a focus on the intersections of activism, art and the body as a site of politics. In 2019 she completed my PhD titled Wounded bodies as sites of dissensus: Acts of resistance by detained people seeking asylum, and in the performance art of Mike Parr, in the School of Media and Communications at RMIT, Melbourne.
